At the WiMAX Congress Asia held on April 9-10 in Singapore, the WiMAX Forum awarded its Certified Seal of Approval to the first batch of eight mobile WiMAX products, EE Times reported. The first batch of certified mobile WiMAX products, including four base stations and four subscriber unit modules, are Wave 1 products in the 2.3GHz profile manufactured by four companies: two Korean equipment makers Samsung and POSDATA and two chip makers Runcom and Sequans.

The first batch of products mainly targets the Korean market, and local operator KT has expressed its intention to deploy these products in its commercial network. According to the EE Times report, over 100 mobile WiMAX products in the 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz frequencies are expected to be certified by year-end 2008.
